Marine Towage Co-ordinator

SMS Towage are the largest independent marine towage provider in the UK and are expanding the operations team.

We are looking for a full-time marine towage coordinator to be based at our head office in Hessle (Hull). 

We are looking for:

  • Previous experience in a marine logistical, planning and resourcing role is preferred 
  • Ability to work under pressure, often with conflicting priorities 
  • Excellent communications skills 
  • Good team player and people management skills  
  • Good command of English language 
  • Flexible working environment including some UK travel 
  • Full Driving Licence
  • An understanding of maritime rules, regulations, codes, and guidelines especially working time directive (Desirable) 
  • Customer focused 
  • Liaise with crew to maintain operational rotas and ensure compliance with relevant legislation 
  • Knowledge of vessel management (Desirable) 
  • Excellent working knowledge of IT systems including Word, Excel, and E-mail (essential)

The Person:

  • Experience of a similar logistical role is preferred
  • Computer literate
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Good team player
  • Good command of English language
  • Flexible working environment including some travel
  • Full Driving Licence

South Wales: Vessel Superintendent

SMS Towage are the largest independent marine towage provider in the UK and are looking to recruit a Vessel Superintendent.

We are looking for a full-time Vessel Superintendent to look after our vessels based in South Wales and Portsmouth. 

      General Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Marine/Safety/Engineering Department databases are in date and maintained.
  • Preparation of docking specification, budgets and reports as well as maintenance and repair budgets, and monitoring of expenditure against those budgets.
  • Supervision of surveys, dockings, overhauls and other repairs and timely communication with operational management on emergent issues affecting scope and cost of repair tasks.
  • Consult with Technical Manager and Marine Manager to plan maintenance schedules, labour requirements and work programs and ensure the regular maintenance of plant and equipment.
  • Provide Marine Engineering technical advice to other departments within the business, including SMS Towage (Bristol Channel) and Belfast Towage.
  • Liaise with Port authorities, Consultants, Shipyards, Contractors and Suppliers as required.
  • On a daily basis review and update HELM status of assigned vessels.
  • On a weekly basis, sit down and review HELM status on tasks, drills, inspections and due/overdue items with Masters and Chief Engineers on assigned vessels.
  • Review and approve HELM requisitions for assigned vessels.
  • Assist the Marine Manager and Marine Superintendent with ISM & FFE and LSA related activities, maintenance and servicing.
  • Coordinating with contractors and obtaining quotations for work deemed necessary on assigned vessels, following the appropriate approval processes for sign-off.
  • Promoting and encouraging the Company’s safety and environmental policy and culture.
  • Attend scheduled Technical meetings in the office and contribute towards system and process reviews, to drive continuous improvement

      Key Accountability:

  • Verifying the vessels are compliant with relevant legislation and the requirements of classification specifically ISM, ISO class requirements.
  • Responsible for the ships onboard maintenance systems.
  • Ensure delivery of appropriate feedback of task completion, outstanding work, condition of asset and additional work required.
  • Responsible for the upkeep of the vessels dry dock and repair (DD&R) programme, prepare dry dock/refit specifications.
  • Conduct periodic inspection of marine assets.

    Person Specification and skill set:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in capacity of Superintendent or corresponding position (essential)
  • Class 1 motor certificate with extensive Chief Engineering experience (desirable but not essential)
  • Experience in shipbuilding/ship repair industry.
  • Thorough understanding of Diesel engines, propulsion systems and ISM.

Tees: AB / Deckhand Tees

SMS Towage are the largest independent marine towage provider in the UK and are looking to recruit Able Seaman / Deckhand's with small boat handing experience to work on our tugs based on the Tees.

The successful applicant must possess valid:

  • STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR)
  • STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FP&FF)
  • STCW Elementary First Aid (EFA)
  • STCW Personal Survival Techniques (PST)
  • ENG1 Medical Certificate (MCA Approved)

An Efficient Deck Hand Certificate or Certificate of Proficiency as an Able Seafarer is desirable.

This is a live onboard, time for time, position (14 days on/off).

You must have a right to work in the UK.
