Humber: Deckhand/Able Seaman Vacancy

We are looking for a Deckhand/Able Seaman to work on our tugs based in the Humber. The successful applicant must possess valid:

ENG1 Medical Certificate (MCA Approved)
STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR)
STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FP&FF)
STCW Elementary First Aid (EFA)
STCW Personal Survival Techniques (PST)

An Efficient Deck Hand Certificate or Certificate of Proficiency as an Able Seafarer is desirable.

Marine Fitter

Hull Based*

*Based in Hull, but covering fleet based in Immingham, Bristol, Belfast and Portsmouth.

SMS Towage Ltd are looking for an experienced Marine Fitter to provide effective support to the Technical Engineering department. The role will be based in our warehouse located in Hessle, but you will be required to travel to our ports of operation in order to carry out your duties.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Work with and under the guidance and instruction of the company’s warehouse manager, ship-board engineers, technical superintendents and technical manager.
  • Performs major and specialized mechanical overhaul and repair work on marine diesel engines and related equipment and systems using technical manuals and drawings.
  • Replace/ fit engines, engine parts, pumps,
  • Performing preventative and corrective maintenance onboard our vessels and in the company’s workshop/warehouse.
  • Maintaining detailed records of servicing and repairs on the company’s planned maintenance system.
  • Maintains a preventive maintenance program for marine engines and related marine equipment.
  • Adhere to an inspection procedure checklist.
  • In conjunction with warehouse manager, maintain the parts inventory.
  • Test engines, alarm and control equipment to determine the needs for repairs or adjustments.
  • Repair and maintain hydraulic equipment and valves.
  • Operate hand and power tools associated with marine engine and equipment repair.
  • Supervises and mentors apprentices and temporary employees.
  • Assist in fabrication of equipment, basic welding skills desired but not required.
  • In conjunction and under supervision of the warehouse manager, purchase parts and supplies.
  • Run engine diagnostic tests and analyze the results.
  • Adheres to company HSE instructions and guidelines.
  • Reports incidents, accidents and near miss occurrences without delay.

The Person

  • Experience in Marine Engineering.
  • Basic electrical fault finding skills desirable.
  • Experience working with ASD systems and Caterpillar engines.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Able to work well on own initiate.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Driving licence essential.

Tug Master Vacancy

We are looking for full time experienced Tug Masters to work on our fleet of tugs.

As a minimum, applicants must have tug handling experience and hold a valid STCW 95 Master<500gt certificate. A valid COC/CEC is essential.

A valid ENG1 is required for this position, along with up to date STCW Elementary First Aid, Personal Safety and Social Responsibility, Personal Survival Techniques and Basic Fire Fighting certificate.
