Technical Superintendent

Purpose of Role

Ensuring the full technical readiness of vessels to meet the service commitments of the operating location.

Main Activities and Responsibilities

  • Support the Technical Manager (TM) in the safe, effective, efficient and economic management of all aspects of the operation, maintenance and overhaul of the vessels.
  • Responsible together with the TM, for verifying the vessels are compliant with all relevant legislation and the requirements of Classification, producing variance reports for senior management as required.
  • Monitor or report on new or current legislation, which may impact on the operation of the ships or the Engineering Department ashore.
  • Responsible for the Line Management of all Engineering Staff on company vessels.
  • To be available outside of Office hours to respond to Emergency Engineering problems on board the vessels.
  • Responsible for the upkeep of the Ship’s Dry Dock and Repair (DD & R) programme, prepare dry dock/ refit specifications, submit to tender, adjudicate tender returns with the TM, control and manage dry docks with due regard to agreed timescales and budgets. Responsible for the line management of all engineering personnel present at the DD & R.
  • Establish and develop Management Processes
  • Conduct regular ship visits to monitor the on board engineering function and to participate in the ISM auditing process.
  • Assist in the raising of insurance claims when required
  • Provide the Service source of Marine Engineering expertise.
  • Provide Marine Engineering technical advice to other Departments within the business, including SMS Towage Ltd and Belfast Towage Ltd.
  • Responsible for the Ship’s onboard Maintenance systems and to ensure the Engineering Department databases are in date.
  • Conduct, in support of TM, periodic inspection of marine assets.
  • Manage and promote environmental improvements within the marine sector.
  • Oversee procurement matters to ensure best value for money and standards are maintained.
  • Liaise with Consultants, shipyards, contractors and suppliers as required by the TM.

Job Requirements

Engineering/Marine Degree - Desirable.

Class One Engineer Certificate or experienced Chief Engineer - Desirable

At least 2-5 years of relevant shore based experience. – Desirable

Functional Experience

Experience with implementing and maintaining ISM code/PMS.

Good people and systems management.

Personal Attributes

Have an ability to make decisions and prioritize.

Work well under pressure, under occasional tight deadlines, and retain sense of humour.

Good communication skills, able to act with tact and diplomacy.

Ability to handle sensitive information.

Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills essential.

Storekeeper/Warehouse Manager

Purpose of Role

To maintain and run the company warehouse/stores facility. To manage the stock levels with the purchasing function to ensure we are carrying minimal but efficient stock levels. To oversee the stores requisitions for all vessels.

Main Activities and Responsibilities

  • Strategically manage the warehouse in compliance with company’s policies and vision.
  • Set up the layout and ensure efficient space utilisation within the warehouse.
  • Maintain an accurate stock records system.
  • Manage stock levels with the purchasing function to ensure holding minimal but efficient stock levels.
  • Ensure parts, stores and goods are receipted accurately on the day of delivery.
  • Ensure all materials within the warehouse are handled and stored safely.
  • Maintain standards of Health & Safety, hygiene and security.
  • Adhere to all warehousing, handling and shipping legislation.
  • Initiate, coordinate and enforce operational policies and procedures.
  • Preparing requisitions for tugs from parts/goods/stores within the warehouse.
  • Ensure effective monthly and yearly stock counts.
  • Provide warehouse/stores support to all Departments, ensuring stock is available on time and in full.
  • Work within ISO 9001 including process flows and work instructions
  • Work towards KPI’s.
  • Co-ordinating the day to day activities of the part time Driver/Warehouse operative.
  • Cleaning and maintenance of the warehouse.
  • Liaising with tugs, suppliers and transport companies.
  • Any other duties as directed by the Management of the company.

Experience

  • Open and co-operative approach.
  • Good planning and organisational skills.
  • Must be self-motivated.
  • Knowledge of COSHH
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001
  • Team player.
  • Full Driving Licence.

Desirable

  • Experience of SAGE PO preferential but not required.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role would be greatly advantageous.
  • Marine and/or engineering knowledge preferential but not required.
  • Used to working in a potentially lone working environment.
  • Purchasing of items within a PO system.
  • Use of stock control systems and software.

Essential

  • Flexibility and co-operation in relation to overtime working and assisting other departments when deemed necessary.
  • Experience of working in a warehouse/store.
  • Strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office; word, excel etc.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Ambitious and happy to be part of a growing organisation

Tug Master Vacancy

We are looking for full time experienced Tug Masters to work on our fleet of tugs.

As a minimum, applicants must have tug handling experience and hold a valid STCW 95 Master<500gt certificate. A valid COC/CEC is essential.

A valid ENG1 is required for this position, along with up to date STCW Elementary First Aid, Personal Safety and Social Responsibility, Personal Survival Techniques and Basic Fire Fighting certificate.
